Iconic artwork lights up Brent Cross

An impressive new artwork by London-based artist, Lakwena in collaboration with architects, IF_DO, has been revealed at Brent Cross Town today.

The Leader of Barnet Council, Cllr Barry Rawlings, has welcomed the Government’s announcement today (19 January) to award £29.5m of Levelling Up funding for the redevelopment of Colindale Tube station.

The Barnet Together partnership has awarded £300,000 of the Barnet Community Fund (BCF) to support the Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector in Barnet.  The fund was shared between 40 Barnet VCFSE organisations and will be used towards the cost-of-living crisis and Covid-19 recovery.

Barnet Council held its annual Holocaust Memorial Day commemoration yesterday (Sunday 29 January) with a service at Middlesex University, bringing together the borough’s multifaith community to remember the victims of the Holocaust and genocide. This year’s theme for Holocaust Memorial Day was ‘ordinary people’ – the everyday people who were the enablers and the victims of the Holocaust.

Barnet Council has installed special lighting and a new mural in Burnt Oak, as part of an exciting creative placemaking project which aims to support and celebrate the town centre’s identity. The new mural is located opposite Burnt Oak underground station on Watling Avenue, and it was brought to life thanks to a joint effort by local young people at Unitas, Burnt Oak Partnership Board, Barnet Council and Transport for London.

As we start a new year, we want to continue to put the community at the heart of what the council does, and in 2023 we will be giving residents even more power and say in the council decisions and plans that affect them.

Barnet council is asking residents to help answer the question of 'how we can be more sustainable now and in the future' by becoming one of 40 members of its Citizens’ Assembly. The borough's first-ever assembly will begin next month, with invitations sent to a representative mix of 8,000 households across Barnet this week. 

Jobs, apprenticeships and new homes for Barnet

Brent Cross Town, the £8bn development at the heart of the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration scheme, has started major construction on its first affordable homes, bringing hundreds of new jobs and training opportunities to the area. 

The LFA will run throughout the month of June, delivering a rich cultural programme of installations, exhibitions, workshops, talks and special events that bring together architects and the public.

Following the sad death of Councillor Melvin Cohen, a by-election will be held for one Councillor in the Golders Green Ward on Thursday 16 February 2023.
