Barnet Libraries’ ‘Select and Collect’ service extended

The service, which was initially rolled out at Barnet’s four Core Plus Libraries in June, allows residents to pick up and return books and other library items of their choice. Since June, library staff have loaned more than 19,000 items as part of the initiative, including well over 10,000 individual books for children and young people.
Fixed COVID-19 testing centre arrives in Edgware as mobile testing units continue to operate around the borough

The mobile units will run from 10.30am-3.30pm at Brent Cross Shopping Centre on Wednesday 7 October and at Edgware Community Hospital on Saturday 10 October. The permanent testing site can be found at Watling Community Centre, 145 Orange Hill Road, Edgware HA8 0TR, from 8am-8pm, seven days a week. DON’T phone the Watling Community Centre to book an appointment, as they won’t be able to help you.

The event will take place on Zoom between 10am and 1pm on Thursday 8 October, and you can book your place online Details on how to join via Zoom will be sent out the day before. Everyone is welcome to attend, and there will be a range of activities throughout the event.

COVID-19 tests will be available from various locations in the Barnet borough this week (beginning Monday 12 October). You’ll be able to find mobile testing units from 10.30am to 3.30pm at:
The Metropolitan Police will be available to speak to members of the public about identifying hate crime, and the ways in which it can be reported to the police. You can find them at our hate crime reporting information stand at Golders Green Bus Station, Station Road, Edgware HA8 7BD, from 9am-12.30pm on Friday 16 October. The police also visited Edgware Bus Station on Monday to raise awareness at a separate hate crime reporting information stand.
Barnet will be hosting events online and across the borough. Hate crime is an issue that affects the entire community. No one deserves to be targeted with abuse because of their disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, faith, race, religion or national origin.

October is Black History Month and this year there are plenty of activities taking place in Barnet to mark and celebrate the month – all of which are virtual and free to join.
