Barnet wins NHS Parliamentary regional award

This clinician-led initiative was developed for Barnet by local GP Dr Murtaza Khanbhai. The idea was endorsed by North Central London Clinical Commissioning Group’s Primary Care Transformation Team, who brought the scheme to life with the support of Barnet Council and the Barnet Primary Care Training Hub. The device was delivered safely for everyone after patients consulted their GP, and the results were sent back promptly to their GP practice.
We have worked really hard together to keep the level of infection rates down locally. As we emerge from lockdown it is important to remain vigilant and alert to the fact that the virus is still around.

Polling stations are open 7am-10pm today - don't forget to vote! Today, Thursday 6 May, around 6.1 million registered Londoners will go to the polls to elect a new Mayor of London and 25 London Assembly Members. In Barnet, two by-elections will also take place on the same day. Registered voters in Edgware and East Barnet will elect one new councillor in each ward.
Hadley Highstone is a Grade II-listed plinth-mounted stone obelisk, located at the junction of Kitts End Road and the A1000 in Chipping Barnet, and dates back to 1740. Barnet Council’s recent cleaning and conservation works helped return the structure to its original state ahead of the ceremony to mark the battle, fought on 14 April 1471. The surrounding area is protected as London’s only registered battlefield site.
Surge testing completed in Finchley

Door-to-door testing in N3 has now been completed. The Mobile Testing Unit in the car park in Finchley Central Station has also closed. All positive COVID-19 tests from our targeted testing in N3 will be sent for genomic sequencing. This will help us to understand the spread of COVID-19 variants locally. It is also important to stress that while violent crimes are still being committed, London remains one of the safest cities in the world. The Metropolitan Police have established a number of different initiatives to keep our borough safe, including the specialist Predatory Offender Units to arrest and charge those who carry out violence. While we continuously work on preventative measures to stop these crimes from happening, we hope that women and girls of all ages across Barnet find this booklet useful.
