500 new trees planted in Barnet

The new memorial woodland – planted ahead of the current National Tree Week – also honours those who have been affected by the loss or sickness of a loved one. It can be found across three separate areas in the Mill Hill Park extension just off Flower Lane.

Barnet Council will be carbon net zero by 2030

Councillors have approved Barnet Council’s targets to be carbon net zero as an organisation by 2030 and for Barnet as a place to be net zero as soon as possible after that – and by 2050 at the latest.

For this reason, we’ve partnered up with Kooth.com, a digital counselling service, open to any young person aged 11 to 25 who would like to receive confidential support and advice. Talking to someone anonymous can often help to relieve any negative feelings you may be experiencing. We’ve also partnered with Papyrus HOPELINEUK, for children and young people under the age of 35 who are experiencing thoughts of suicide. The service offers free, confidential support and practical advice.

Barnet Council has secured over £3.5m in grant funding to deliver 500 on-street electric vehicle charge points by November 2022. Barnet currently has the second highest rate of electric car ownership in London and the grant from the Office of Zero Emissions Vehicles (OZEV) will see the charge points installed in 34 of Barnet’s residential streets by November 2022.

This festive season will see people across the borough celebrating Christmas and ringing in the New Year. The current proposals are for a type of road closure known as traffic filters – enforced by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras – in Booth Road and The Greenway, Colindale. The aim is to reduce non-residential vehicles passing through these roads to improve the quality of life for residents in these areas, which would also improve road safety and air quality.

Every March, the council sets a budget for the next financial year giving details on how much money we will spend on each of the services we provide. We have taken a long-term and proactive approach to financial planning in difficult circumstances. We have saved over £205million since 2010, enabling us to protect frontline services as far as possible.

Councillors have approved Barnet Council plans for the development of the Hendon Hub following Monday (January 10) night’s Strategic Planning Committee. Plans for the development, which will be created by Barnet Council in partnership with Middlesex University, were given the go-ahead. This was following consultation with the local community and key stakeholders, which fed into the adaption of the proposals.
