COVID-19: rules change but remain cautious

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has followed the rules since the start of the pandemic. Without the many sacrifices that we have all made, we would not have been able to regain many of our freedoms today. I also want to thank the thousands of Barnet residents who have had or are planning to have both doses of their vaccine as vaccination remains the strongest weapon we have in the fight against COVID-19.
The Town Centre Heroes initiative is part of the Discover Barnet campaign and aims to celebrate the people behind Barnet’s town centres that have gone above and beyond to support their community. We want to honour the everyday heroes who make a difference in our borough.
Barnet Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2021-2025

Hendon Hub proposals take step forward

At a meeting of full Council on 27 July, councillors voted to approve the business case for the Hendon Hub, paving the way for the development proposals to progress. The decision means that planning applications for the scheme, which have been developed in partnership with Middlesex University, can be submitted over the coming weeks. Residents will then have a further opportunity to provide their feedback as part of the statutory planning consultation process.
New Pavilion Study Centre takes shape

The school’s Executive Head Teacher Joanne Kelly was joined by Councillor David Longstaff, Barnet Council’s Deputy Leader and lead member for education, Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers, and students, on a tour of the building in Whetstone which is due for completion in the summer of 2022.

Chart-topping reggae band, Aswad, and the bad boys of 90s pop, East 17, will be headlining Barnet Summertime in Barnet Playing Fields. With 21 albums to their name and over two decades on the music scene, Aswad earned international acclaim with their reggae version of “Don’t Turn Around.” The smash hit was released in 1988 and sailed to the #1 slot on the UK national charts.
£130,000 of Barnet Council-backed grants awarded to local health and wellbeing projects

Local NHS acute and community trusts, North Central London CCG and Barnet Council have shared a pot of £126,460 to invest in projects including supporting unpaid carers, online art classes for older people experiencing isolation, developing employability skills, and dance classes for older people to aid mobility.

Head over to Brent Cross Shopping Centre to experience the digital masterpiece produced by Barnet's GCSE and A-Level students. The mural is located along the hoardings outside Pines and Needles tree hub, opposite Fenwicks. When you visit the site, you’ll notice the detail and thought that went into each section of the collage, and feel the essence of life, community spirit and hope through a young person’s eyes.
A-level and BTEC results day 2021

This year students have been awarded grades by teachers and have only be assessed on what they have been taught, not what they may have missed. Teachers have based their judgements on students’ performance on a range of evidence, which could include mock exams, non-exam assessment (coursework) in some subjects, as well as other assessments done in class.
