The oldest building standing in Stonegrove today is occupied by Apex Garden Materials. It originally formed part of Nichols farm, and is from the 17th century. Further up are two sets of almshouses.

Hadley Common was once part of a great expanse of land known as Enfield Chase.  This was a favourite place of the Tudor monarchs for hunting. Local people, including the inhabitants of Hadley, were allowed to keep sheep and cows on the land, as well as take some firewood.

Barnet Council is required to prepare and maintain a register of previously developed land, known as a Brownfield Land Register. Government regulations and guidance sets out criteria to inform production of the register. The register must be updated at least annually.
