Regents Park Road bus lane scheme ('Scheme')
Received: 17 November 2025
Re: Regents Park Road bus lane scheme ('Scheme')Thank you for your letter of 13th November confirming the decision to cancel the Scheme. As a resident of Allandale Avenue for the past 36 years, I believe that the decision to implement a bus lane between Henley's Corner and Gravel Hill ("Proposed Route") was wholly inappropriate and misconceived. There has never been an unreasonable delay in traffic, including buses, travelling through the Proposed Route unlike other areas of Finchley- e,g, Temple Fortune to Henley's Corner during rush hours.I would also mention that prior to the Scheme being partially implemented in August 2025 I received no consultation whatsoever either by post, email or through Barnet public notifications. I have spoken to a number of people locally and each say the same. The Scheme would, in simple terms, never have worked as any reasonable analysis of the partially completed Scheme in respect of the Proposed Route during the period August to November 2025 indisputably showed.I am amazed that "independent engineers" gave assurances that the Scheme was safe. Who are the engineers in question? Are they the same engineers who designed the Scheme or were they brought in after August 2025 to comment on its safety aspects following its partial implementation. In short, please explain in what way the engineers were independent. Finally, please advise of the cost of both designing, constructing and partially implementing the Scheme and the cost of works required to effect its cancellation, inclusive of all professional fees, signage, communication and any other ancillary costs together with VAT (if applicable). Most importantly, who is bearing the costs in question?
