Council Leader marks second anniversary of 7 October attacks

Cllr Barry Rawlings, Leader of Barnet Council, has marked the second anniversary of the 7 October terrorist attacks in a statement expressing sympathy and solidarity with the Jewish community:

“Today, we mark two years since the terrorist attacks of 7 October in Israel.

“The impact on Barnet’s Jewish community is immense, with loss and grief experienced by many of our Jewish residents.

“Since that day, antisemitic incidents have increased dramatically across the UK, including the shocking and deadly attack on Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation on Yom Kippur.

“We mourn the loss of innocent lives across the Middle East and extend our deepest sympathies to the victims, their families and all those who continue to suffer in the ongoing violence.

“We are determined to ensure Barnet is a safe space for our Jewish community, as we are for all our communities.

“Our duty is to tackle hate crime and to unite our borough. Our diversity is our strength, and we will continue to work with our partners in these important tasks.”
