To celebrate the re-opening of Chipping Barnet Library, join us for this art-making experience, filled with colour and texture where we can enjoy the experience of the present and perhaps, remind ourselves of the past. The first part is a warmer where participants will be asked to pick an object from a bowl such as a button or a bead. They will be engaging with this object by feeling it's shape and weight and looking at the shape and colour. The object is something for them to integrate into part two.

Ribcage: The Performance at Chipping Barnet library

Last updated:

Join us for a dance performance about breathing in the future and breathing out the past. The in-between is alive with possibilities, or paused with fear. The world in the past has gone. There is a chance to start again, to create a new future for ourselves - but how far can we break free from the shackles of history, and how much do we really want to? Ribcage reflects on the emotions, struggles, restrictions, hope and transformation of a society in limbo. There will be a 30-minute performance followed by a short workshop.

Chinese Food in British Culture - More Than Just Chicken Balls, Curry, and Chips! The Chinese went from being viewed as 'inscrutable' and 'dangerous' in London's Limehouse Chinatown to opening Chinese restaurants in every town and city in the UK. These became an established part of everyday British life. Based on Eclectic Tours' Chinese in London walking tour, this talk examines how Chinese food became a British dining staple and how that helped change perceptions of the Chinese since they first arrived as seamen in the 1800s.
