Empty homes review
Last updated:
The Council is required by law to maintain accurate Council Tax records and has asked Capacitygrid to review all empty homes within the area. This is also in support of the Government’s initiative to tackle the shortfall in national housing. As part of the Empty Homes Review, you must inform us (via Capacitygrid) if the above property is occupied or not. If Capacitygrid do not receive a response, an inspection of the property will be carried out. Update the property records for your address

West Hendon

The regeneration of the West Hendon estate, in the south-west of the borough, aims to create a new mixed neighbourhood of social, private and affordable homes with a range of benefits, including a new school and community centre. Why regeneration is taking place Homes on the West Hendon Estate do not meet the Decent Homes Standard. At least £11.5 million would be required to bring existing homes up to Decent Homes Standards; the cost of which would need to be funded by both the council and existing homeowners.

Electrical safety for tenants
Last updated:
By law, your landlord must ensure that electrical installations and wiring are maintained in a safe condition throughout the tenancy. As a tenant, you have a responsibility to maintain any electrical items you bring into the house, but under no circumstance should someone who is not qualified attempt to fix a problem themselves. If you notice an electrical problem, you should first inform your landlord immediately and give them an opportunity to put the problem right.
Fire, gas and electrical safety
Last updated:
Fire safety Fire safety measures are an important consideration for all rented property, as fire is more likely to occur in a rented property than in an owner-occupied home. The risk of a fire increases with the number of occupants and the government recognises that there is a particular risk of fire in houses in multiple occupation (HMOs), especially if the tenants do not know each other. All private sector landlords are legally required to install at least one smoke alarm on every storey of their rented property.
