Step-free access for Mill Hill Broadway

The DfT’s Access for All programme – originally launched in 2006 – will fund improvements at 73 railway stations nationwide after an additional £300million was set aside for the project.

Mill Hill Broadway caters for 2.7million train passengers per year – with eight trains per hour stopping at the station during normal daytime service. New gates will be installed as a part of the project to help cope with the number of peak-hour passengers and expected growth in the future.

Residents making a difference in Barnet honoured at Civic Awards ceremony in 2019

They were given Civic Awards across a range of categories during the event on Wednesday 3 April after being nominated by the public for the good work that they have done.

The Worshipful Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Reuben Thompstone, said: “These awards celebrate the contribution that these wonderful people have made to their community. It is enriching to live in a borough that contains such selfless and motivated citizens, who work endlessly to make Barnet a better place for others.”

High street family hub scheme wins Entrepreneurial Barnet Competition

The competition, now in its sixth year after being launched by Barnet Council to boost the borough’s business talent, attracted record levels of interest.

The final winner was Joanne Merchant with her forthcoming high street hub When I Grow Up, providing an appealing play, support and community space for families with young children.

Pools closure at Finchley Lido

We apologise on behalf of our partners at Better for any inconvenience and customers will be able to use the pools at Barnet Copthall and Church Farm.

During the closure, our partners at Better will be completing significant improvements including plant and machinery upgrades and refurbishment of poolside with new changing facilities, new vanity area, new lockers, improved customer flow and layout. The plant room improvements include a new air handling system that will improve the air quality for spectators and swimmers.

Council Tax for 2019/20 approved

There will be a 2.99 per cent increase to General Council Tax this year.  The increase in Council Tax, which was approved by Budget Council on Tuesday, 5 March, will mean an extra £36 per year for a Band D property.
